10 Best Survivor Series Main Events, According To Cagematch.net

Since its inception in 1987, Survivor Series is the second of the “big four” events to be created after WrestleMania. Despite being around longer than the Royal Rumble, and SummerSlam, Survivor Series has failed to live up to the expectations in the past decade and is generally viewed as the weakest of the “big four” events. However, there have been some brilliant main events that WWE has produced at Survivor Series.

Some of the main events were WrestleMania quality matches, and with the theme of Survivor Series being all about survival, there have been tons of elimination matches that have closed out the show. Moreover, since the reintroduction of the brand split in 2016, brand warfare between Raw and SmackDown has been bigger than ever.

Survivor Series is one of the biggest premium live events of the year as it is one of the traditional “big four” events. Some of the biggest matches have taken place at WWE’s November tradition and some of the all-time greats have participated in multiple main events at Survivor Series. 10 Diesel Vs. Bret Hart – Survivor Series 1995 (8.01)

Bret Hart Becomes A Three-Time WWE Champion

Diesel was clocking in at 358 days in his WWE Championship reign, and he defended the gold against Bret Hart in a No Disqualification match at the 1995 iteration of Survivor Series. Both were babyfaces but both channeled their inner heels, and they told a remarkable story.

This match is also notorious for the Spanish announce table breaking for the first time with Diesel putting Bret through it. Their WWE Title match was competitive but the Excellence of Execution played possum, and he executed a small package on Big Daddy Cool to become a three-time WWE Champion.

The pendulum swung in a remarkable match that had fans at home on the edge of their seats. Nonetheless, the Tribal Chief continued his dominance ensuring that he got the bragging rights for SmackDown in one of the best matches in both Reigns and McIntyre’s careers.

Big Match John Outlasts D-Generation X

Three of the all-time greats in John Cena, Shawn Michaels, and Triple H clashed in a triple threat match for Big Match John’s WWE Championship to close out Survivor Series 2009. There was a surprising turn of events at the start of the match as HBK nailed his fellow DX tag team partner Triple H with Sweet Chin Music.

All three brought their A-game to Survivor Series as all Cena, Michaels, and Triple H was desperate to walk out with the WWE Championship. The Game retaliated to HBK’s early antics by putting him through the announce table with a spinebuster. It was a valiant effort from Michaels and Triple H but Cena retained his title with an Attitude Adjustment.

The men’s WarGames match in the main event of Survivor Series 2022 was a fantastic encounter. The Bloodline fielded the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos, Solo Sikoa, and Sami Zayn. They squared off with Kevin Owens, Drew McIntyre, and the Brawling Brutes.

The main story was to see what Zayn would do when he interacted with his best friend KO. Zayn proved that he was on his the Bloodline’s side as he prevented KO from picking up the win for his team. Zayn attacked KO and Jey Uso sealed the deal by finishing off KO with his patented Uso Splash.

Survivor Series 2007 marked 17 years since Undertaker’s WWE debut, and he was looking to regain the World Heavyweight Championship at Batista’s expense inside Hell in a Cell. Batista and Undertaker’s rivalry dominated 2007, and once again they hit a home run in an enthralling Hell in a Cell match.

Their chemistry together was great, and the Animal was at his best when he feuded with the Deadman. However, Undertaker was closing in on another World Heavyweight Championship reign but the Rated-R Superstar Edge returned, and he laid out Undertaker. Edge put Batista on top of Undertaker with Batista earning a second victory over Undertaker in a hard-fought battle.

This marked the first time in the history of Survivor Series that the WWE Championship main-evented the show. Michaels and Hart proved why they trusted to close out the show, and they put on a technical masterclass. Hart prevailed in one of the best WWE Title matches in the ’90s.

Their opponents were Team Authority comprised of Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins, Kane, Mark Henry, the Intercontinental Champion Luke Harper, and the United States Champion Rusev.

Cena’s team would be fired excluding Cena if they lost, and Team Authority would cease to exist if they came up short. The Beast Incarnate dominated Bryan with ease as he had the size and strength advantage.

Moreover, since Bryan was a newly minted heel, he refused to back down from Lesnar and he gave him a good run for his money. However, despite the new WWE Champion’s efforts, the result was inevitable with Brock picking up a huge win.

They went toe-to-toe with Steve Austin, Shane McMahon, Kurt Angle, Booker T, and Rob Van Dam who were flying the flag for Team Alliance.

The stars on the show excelled and it was the perfect ending to the Invasion angle. Austin had Rock’s number for the majority of their battles but Rock earned a huge win for his team by finally overcoming Austin.

WWE introduced the Elimination Chamber match at the 2002 Survivor Series with Triple H’s World Heavyweight Championship up for grabs. Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, Booker T, Kane, and Rob Van Dam were all hellbent on ending the Game’s run with the title.

There is a reason why the Elimination Chamber is still around almost 20 years later as it is a violent match. The Game with his crushed trachea navigated his way to the final two with the Showstopper. They went back and forth but it was a great ending with Michaels nailing Triple H with Sweet Chin Music to secure his fourth and final world championship reign.
