Professional wrestlers are given a perfect crash course in how to act by being part of this business. There are no second chances due to the live element, and they get to perform larger-than-life characters, often having to adapt on the fly and be good at improvisation. This is why fans have seen so many wrestlers step into the world of acting and thrive, as they have ready-made skills to do so.
While certain wrestlers such as Steve Austin and Triple H dabbled in acting but ultimately had better wrestling careers, some have gone the other way. Some wrestlers have ended up going on to have amazing careers in the acting world that have trumped what they were able to do in wrestling, regardless of how successful they were in the business.
7 Tyler Mane
Tyler Mane is someone who had a good, but largely forgettable wrestling career. He competed a lot in Japan for both New Japan Pro-Wrestling and All Japan Pro Wrestling, building up his name as an in-ring talent. However, he never truly broke out as a wrestler in the same way he has as an actor.
Mane has had a great career since pivoting into the movie business. He was Sabertooth in the original “X-Men” movie, while he has also been able to take on the iconic role of Michael Myers in the Rob Zombie “Halloween” films, making the most of his imposing size which comes from his time in wrestling.
6 Nathan Jones
Nathan Jones is someone who could have had a fantastic career in professional wrestling because WWE had high hopes for him as a performer. He was pushed heavily from the start of his career, getting to work with The Undertaker which created a big opportunity for him to make a name for himself.
Ultimately, Jones decided wrestling wasn’t for him which is why he has largely been forgotten about. However, he went on to become a big star in the acting world where he has had roles in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Hobbs & Shaw,” and “Troy” amongst others.
5 David Arquette
David Arquette is someone that people think of as an actor, not a professional wrestler, which is ultimately why he’s had a better career in Hollywood. He’s a tremendous actor who can bring vulnerability and great comedy at the same time, and it was his success that opened up the opportunity for him to get into wrestling, a sport he loves.
However, Arquette is more than just a celebrity who had some matches. He became a wrestler and is a former World Champion during his time in WCW, and he went on to compete on the independent scene as well, even having a death match with Nick Gage which led to a very serious injury. Despite his passion for the sport, it is Hollywood where he is best set.
Kurrgan was an imposing figure inside the ring, which is something that allowed him to stand out at times. However, he was never the greatest worker and that is why there wasn’t a major push for him over the years, but in the world of Hollywood, he’s enjoyed a lot of success and has proven just how talented he is from an entertainment standpoint.
Kurrgan’s height has allowed him to take on a lot of unique roles that other people wouldn’t have been able to do. He has featured in some major movies over the years from “300” and “Sherlock Holmes” to “Deadpool 2” and “Pacific Rim” having a brilliant career in that world.
Grado is an incredibly popular British wrestler who has enjoyed success in the ring, particularly on the independent scene. However, he has also broken out beyond that, mainly competing for Impact Wrestling where his charming personality and comedic timing have allowed him to be a success.
However, he’s arguably had even more success as an actor. While Grado isn’t bursting out into the world of Hollywood movies, he’s been involved in some very popular British television shows where his charisma has been allowed to shine bright.
2 Stacy Keibler
Stacy Keibler is a Hall Of Famer, showcasing that she certainly had an impactful career. She was able to put together some amazing moments in WWE and WCW, and she’s more than deserving of that honor. However, Keibler’s best moments in wrestling were all character-driven, rather than being about her natural in-ring ability.
While she did improve as a wrestler she was never the most gifted inside the ring in comparison to others. However, her ability to act certainly helped her in WWE, and allowed her to thrive in Hollywood. She was involved in some major shows from “How I Met Your Mother” to “Chuck” and “Psych” while also thriving on “Dancing With The Stars,” with her acting quality always being great.
1 The Rock
The Rock is one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time, therefore claiming he had a better acting career showcases just how successful he has been in Hollywood. While it was his being a WWE main event star that opened the door for him to act, there’s no denying he has become an even bigger star because of his work in movies and television.
The Rock has gone from being a huge star in the wrestling bubble to being one of the most recognizable people in the world. He’s one of the highest-paid actors in the industry, and someone who has been involved in some major blockbuster movies, with The Rock set to go down in history as a true mainstream actor.
