AEW Signings Struggling In 2024

AEW has a deep roster, which is largely because Tony Khan is consistently signing talent when they become available. Whether it’s former WWE Superstars or names from the independent scene, he has no problem freshening up the roster which makes it exciting for the audience as fresh matches and storylines are always available.

Miro being signed by AEW was something that caused a lot of excitement amongst fans because most people felt he was underused in WWE. Miro always had main event potential due to his hard-hitting ability and his confidence on the microphone, and whenever he’s been given chances in AEW he has thrived.

The problem is his booking has been too inconsistent. He has had a storyline going with CJ Perry, and after beating Andrade El Idolo most people thought he’d kick on in 2024, but instead, he hasn’t wrestled a single match yet this year.

9 Anthony Ogogo Is Still Waiting For A Shot

Anthony Ogogo has been with AEW for a long time, but despite his early feud against Cody Rhodes, there’s been a lack of opportunities for the former Olympian. He has been busy working hard on the independent scene, but that has yet to translate into chances in AEW.

Ogogo hasn’t competed in a match yet this year for the company, which is a sign that he is still struggling. He is someone who previously benefited from AEW’s YouTube shows, and without that now there are fewer opportunities for him to make his mark.

8 Paul Wight Has Been Dealing With Health Issues

Paul Wight’s entire run with AEW hasn’t gone to plan, as he has competed in just six matches for the company since signing in 2021, despite his desire to wrestle more being the reason he left WWE. A big reason for this is that Wight has been dealing with serious health problems, mainly with his knee.

It has been visible to see whenever he has competed that Wight isn’t moving completely smoothly, and that is a big reason why there have been limited opportunities with Wight struggling to make much impact.

7 Kip Sabian Is Mainly Used To Put Others Over

2024 Televised Matches: Two

Kip Sabian has been with AEW from its inception, and actually wrestled Sammy Guevara in the first-ever AEW match. He’s a talented worker and someone who has no shortage of personality, which he has tried to inject on television whenever the opportunity has come.

However, Sabian has found himself stuck in a role where he is primarily used to put over other people. While he always looks good inside the ring, the Englishman hasn’t been given the chance to showcase what he’s truly capable of in a way that could get himself over.

6 Lance Archer Has Been Underused

2024 Televised Matches: Two

AEW Signing Date

AEW Titles

February 26, 2020

N/A

Lance Archer is a fantastic big man who makes everything that he does inside the ring look realistic. He doesn’t hold back with his arsenal of moves, and that is why all of his matches are enjoyable to watch, the only problem is that he doesn’t get booked regularly enough.

With Jake Roberts working alongside him there should be no shortage of opportunities as together they make an intimidating package that could easily entertain audiences if the chance was there.

5 Wardlow Has Lost His Momentum

2024 Televised Matches: Two

AEW Signing Date

AEW Titles

August 31, 2019

There was a time when Wardlow was incredibly over with the AEW fanbase and seemed to have a huge future with the company, but some poor booking decisions certainly hurt him overall. The lack of real push following his dominant win over MJF completely lost fan interest in him.

AEW Signing Date

AEW Titles

January 8, 2019

  • 1x AEW All-Atlantic Champion
  • 1x AEW World Trios Champion

Everyone knows that Pac is an incredible wrestler, and he has showcased that throughout his AEW career. Tony Khan is clearly a fan of him and whenever the Englishman is around he has been pushed whether it has been as part of Death Triangle or with his singles run against Kenny Omega.

However, Pac has struggled to be around consistently which is why he’s often a forgotten man. Whether it’s injuries or the fact that he lives in England and travels back and forth, he hasn’t hit the heights people thought he would.

3 Marina Shafir Hasn’t Worked Out In AEW

Marina Shafir is best known for being part of the MMA Four Horsewomen, but when it comes to what she’s done in professional wrestling the former WWE Superstar hasn’t been able to make as much impact. She wasn’t someone people expected AEW to sign, and despite attempts to make her feel intimidating, it hasn’t worked.

Shafir still looks green inside the ring and lacks confidence on the microphone, and while there’s no doubt been improvements it hasn’t quite connected to this point.

While he always gets a response from the audience due to nostalgia, particularly when working alongside his brother, there’s no doubt that Jeff Hardy is managing to work better in the current climate as a singles star.
