Colleagues such as Angela Hill have offered heartfelt tributes to the Canadian fighter. The news of her death was confirmed by her former coach, Jeff Harrison, and other close individuals via social media on Wednesday. As of now, no public cause of death has been disclosed, though many tributes have mentioned her struggles with personal demons.


Her former coach, Jeff Harrison, confirmed her passing, expressing on Instagram that he was privileged to have mentored and coached her in the early stages of her career. Harrison admired Ashley for her remarkable courage, determination, and resilience, viewing her as evidence that hard work and dedication could lead to remarkable achievements in life, regardless of one’s background. Despite battling personal demons, Ashley’s unwavering desire to excel remained constant, driving her to pursue greatness.

Nichols boasted a professional MMA record of 7 wins and 4 losses, securing victory in her final three bouts. Her most recent fight occurred on November 18, 2023. Throughout her career, she squared off against notable UFC veterans including Randa Markos, Mallory Martin, and Jaqueline Amorim, while also training alongside other UFC standouts like Angela Hill. Following the news of her passing, Angela Hill was among many who paid tribute to her remarkable career.


Angela Hill took to social media to mourn the loss of Ashley Nichols, sharing a poignant tribute alongside a photo of them during their Muay Thai fight. Hill reminisced about their encounter, which marked her first professional bout and also served as the inaugural women’s headliner for Friday Night Fights. She described Nichols as exuding a calm, sniper-like energy and a deep passion for the art of combat.


Despite being formidable opponents in the ring, Hill emphasized the lasting bond they shared, even as they pursued separate paths in MMA following their Muay Thai clash. Nichols, a woman proud of her heritage from the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, excelled not only as a kickboxer and Muay Thai fighter but also boasted a 7-4 record in professional MMA. Before her untimely passing, she had been anticipated to make a comeback on March 9 at Pallas Athena Women’s Fighting Championship 3 in Calgary, Alberta.
