In a recent statement, Mexican boxing star Canelo Alvarez delivered a scathing assessment of the announced fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, labeling it as “more of a show” rather than a genuine fight.

The much-discussed bout, which is scheduled to take place on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and is set to be aired on Netflix, has garnered mixed reactions from both fans and critics. Tyson, who hasn’t stepped into the ring since his exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020, takes on Pau,l who is 30 years his junior.

Alvarez’s remarks come amidst widespread condemnation of Tyson’s return to the ring at 57 years old, with many in the combat sports community expressing skepticism about the legitimacy of the event. Initially critical of the match, UFC President Dana White has notably reversed his stance following a phone call with Tyson’s wife.

Others have praised Tyson’s age-defying fitness and motivation in training to overcome the more youthful fighter.
