Even though CM Punk is recovering from a torn triceps and likely won’t be able to wrestle again until at least September, it seems he will remain involved with other things in WWE to keep him busy. The two-time AEW Champion has been doing work with NXT since his WWE return, and that will continue through his recovery as he popped by the Performance Center this week. Unfortunately, Punk apparently had a run-in with Booker T while he was there.

Run-In At NXT

Booker has been calling the action in NXT since October 2022, and when asked by his Hall Of Fame podcast co-host Brad Gilmore if he had seen Punk backstage this week, Booker had this to say (H/T to Cageside Seats for the transcription).

I saw Punk. No, we’ll talk about that off the air. But I almost had like a little run-in with CM Punk. The internet might want to pick that up. Me and CM Punk almost got into it at NXT this week. We’ll talk about it later.

WWE Confirms CM Punk Will Return To Raw On The Road To WrestleMania

CM Punk will be back on the March 25 Raw emanating from Chicago’s Allstate Arena.

That’s all Booker had to say about what happened, but you can watch the full clip below. The Hall of Famer appeared mildly amused by whatever it was that happened but, understandably, wasn’t willing to go into any more detail than he already had. Fearing it would get fans buzzing, as expected, even hinting at it has got social media dissecting the situation and wondering what might have happened.

History Repeating Itself?

Booker claiming he and Punk had crossed words will revive fears that Punk’s WWE return will be shortlived and that the issues that plagued him in AEW may resurface in WWE. Punk publicly slammed Hangman Page and AEW’s EVPs in an All Out press conference and was then involved in an alleged brawl with them backstage afterward. At last year’s All In, Punk reportedly came to blows with Jack Perry, a clash that seemingly cost him his job.

Punk has seemed happy in WWE so far and his involvement in NXT has even led to rumblings that he might one day replace Shawn Michaels as the head of the brand. Hopefully Booker is having a little fun or, even better, planting the seed for an angle between the two that will get Punk on NXT TV while he’s recovering from his injury. If there really was a confrontation, WWE will want to stamp out any risk of a follow-up immediately and make it clear to Punk that sort of thing won’t be tolerated.
