CM Punk started Monday Night Raw by sharing with the WWE Universe that his torn triceps injury that he suffered at the Royal Rumble was going to keep him out of action long enough to miss WrestleMania 40.
Punk was introduced on Raw and it was clear he was hurt. Wearing a sling and not 100 percent, Punk cut a promo suggesting he didn’t believe in luck, but was feeling rather unlucky. He congratulated Cody Rhodes for winning the Royal Rumble and said he was hoping Cody could move on and finish his story. But, for Punk, it appeared WrestleMania was not in the cards. He tore his tricep in the Rumble match and the injury will make it so he’s unable to be in the Elimination Chamber match and try to punch his ticket back into the title conversation.
Punk got emotional while talking and said that while he won’t get to finish his story, his injury was merely a bump in the road. It was adversity he’s been fighting all of his life, and it was nothing compared to people he knew that were dealing with bigger issues. He cited a friend battling cancer. He talked about fans who had jobs that mattered and that they showed up every day and kept going. He planned to keep going too. He added, “There’s always next year.”
WWE Set Up a Feud With Drew McIntyre
During Punk’s promo, Drew McIntyre came out and said he was listening to him talk and said he prayed for this and it happened. Upset that Punk eliminated him from the Rumble, he was more worried about Punk going on to headline WrestleMania. He did everything he could to make it so that wouldn’t happen and the injury accomplished what he set out to. Punk got in McIntyre’s face and said he would eventually main-event WrestleMania, but first, he was coming for McIntyre. When he was healthy enough, Mcintyre was the first checkmark on Punk’s list.
CM Punk Suffers Major Injury At WWE Royal Rumble
CM Punk has had some bad luck with injuries since he made his return to wrestling in 2021.
McIntyre attacked Punk and targeted his arm. Sami Zayn made the save and a match for later in the night was set between Drew and Sami.
Punk doesn’t look like he’ll be at WrestleMania, but the fact he was physical after the injury was a good sign. Hopefully it won’t be too long.
