Damson Idris Lands Lead Role Opposite Brad Pitt In F1 Racing Movie

After months of meetings, auditions and even several days of test drives, Apple Studios seems to have found its broker to direct its highly anticipated racing movie set in the world of F1. Sources have told Deadline that Damson Idris has been tapped to co-star with Brad Pitt. Kosinski will co-direct his untitled feature with Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman from seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton through their Dawn Apollo brand.

The producers have been meeting with prospects for the role since November. At the beginning of the year, the rosters were whittled down to a handful of actors, with Idris making the final cut. In addition to a series of screen tests, the actors also had to prove they had the resources to handle the film’s intense driving scenes, and they underwent a series of driving tests in January.

The untitled film follows Brad Pitt as a retired racer who mentors a younger racer and as the younger driver’s teammate gives up his last chance at the track. Apple got the package in one of the biggest deals of 2022.

Idris burst onto the scene with her critically acclaimed role on the FX series Snowfall. The latest season of the show just premiered and he’s been fighting for the next big role as his schedule opens up. He was also recently seen on Amazon’s Swarm.
