Danny Masterson Shifted To State Prison Following Rape Conviction, First Mugshot Released

Actor Danny Masterson, known for his role in “That ’70s Show,” has been transferred to a state prison following his conviction on rape charges involving two women. His recent mugshot, depicting him in an orange jumpsuit, has also been released to the public.

A representative from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed to PEOPLE that the 47-year-old actor was admitted to North Kern State Prison on Wednesday. Masterson is currently undergoing the classification and reception process within the facility.

Earlier in September, Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison and had been held at Los Angeles County jail. This transfer was made as he was deemed a potential flight risk, as reported by ABC News.

The charges against Masterson stemmed from a 2020 accusation of forcibly raping three women in separate incidents between 2001 and 2003. He was found guilty on two rape charges in May following a trial. The initial trial in late 2022 resulted in a mistrial when jurors couldn’t reach a unanimous decision.

Following Masterson’s sentencing, his defense attorney expressed plans to appeal the verdict.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón commented on the ruling, stating, “Justice was finally served.” He acknowledged the challenging journey for Masterson’s victims, highlighting their bravery in navigating a system often unsupportive of survivors. Gascón praised their courage and hoped that the sentence would offer them solace while serving as an inspiration to others.

The case surrounding Masterson’s conviction has sparked widespread discussions about the justice system’s treatment of assault survivors, emphasizing the importance of survivors’ voices and the pursuit of justice in such cases.
