At the age of 68, Akira Toriyama, the legendary mind behind Dragon Ball, a globally adored Japanese manga, has departed. His passing on March 1, attributed to an acute subdural hematoma, a type of cranial bleeding, was confirmed on the official Dragon Ball website. Toriyama’s funeral was solemnly attended by close family and relatives.

The statement on the website read, “We are deeply saddened to inform you that Manga creator Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1st due to acute subdural hematoma. He was 68. It’s our deep regret that he still had several works in the middle of creation with great enthusiasm. Also, he would have many more things to achieve.” 

Revealing details about Akira’s funeral the statement added, “We hope that Akira Toriyama’s unique world of creation continues to be loved by everyone for a long time to come. Funeral service was held with his family and very few relatives.”

Reacting to the statement many fans of the famous series shared their grief and shock and offered condolences to the family of the departed. A user wrote, “Thank You Akira Toriyama. You have touched so many lives and inspired millions throughout the entire world. May you rest in peace, you will NEVER be forgotten”.

One user tweeted, “Legends never die, RIP Akira, you created one of the best shows ever and touched so many of our hearts growing up. Thank you for everything”. Another tweeted, “This is so heartbreaking, he and his work played a huge role in the lives of myself and many many others. Rest in peace, and thank you for all the wonderful memories”.

Who Was Akira Toriyama?

Born in Japan in 1955, Akira Toriyama began his artistic journey at a tender age. Initially, he created Wonder Island and Wonder Island 2, but it was his early 1980s creation, Dr. Slump, that propelled him to prominence. Dr. Slump chronicled the adventures of a girl robot named Arale and her inventor. Nevertheless, it was Dragon Ball that catapulted him to unparalleled fame. This iconic creation not only gave rise to video games but also laid the foundation for successful film franchises.
