Roman Reigns had been feuding with the McMahon family throughout the latter part of 2015 while trying to pursue the WWE Championship. He would go on to lose his WWE Title in the 2016 Royal Rumble to the returning Triple H, who he took out of action weeks before. However, Reigns later earned a title shot against The Game at WrestleMania 32 by defeating Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar in a No.1 contenders match at WWE Fastlane.

The road to the mega match did not have the fans invested, as they had no interest in seeing Roman Reigns in the match. During the match, the jeers against him made it even more evident. Moreover, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon’s attempts to make Roman look strong and the hard-hitting action failed as well. Reigns won the title that night but was mercilessly booed out of the building. Fans expected a heel turn or some sort of twist, but in the end this simply saw Reigns overcome the heel and win the match.

The match that was supposed to establish Roman Reigns as an even bigger megastar did not live up to the expectations. The Big Dog squared off against the Phenom, The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33.

The Lord of Darkness looked visibly out of shape, slow, and was not able to perform at the level he would generally do. Roman Reigns’ dominating performance was quite evident, but Undertaker’s in-ring skills that night were put into question. Right after, footage from WWE’s The Last Ride showed that Taker apologized to Roman Reigns for their match at WrestleMania a year prior.

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar met for the third time in a high-stakes bout at WrestleMania 38. However, things were completely different this time. Roman Reigns was on the top of the mountain as the Tribal Chief, while Lesnar branched out on his own and showed a completely new side of himself. Reigns walked in as Universal Champion and Brock was the reigning WWE Champion with both titles on the line in a Winner-Take-All match.


Both fought tooth and nail and delivered an exceptionally well match in Dallas, Texas with the fans being highly engaged in their bout, despite the outcome being very much known to them. It was one of the most hard-hitting affairs in the show’s history and ended with Roman Reigns walking out as the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

Roman Reigns’ outshone the majority of his WrestleMania main event performances with his latest one against the American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes. After an excellent buildup since the Royal Rumble, the two met in Hollywood and delivered a great wrestling bout that will be remembered for years to come.

The match was built around Roman Reigns’ dominant moves, Cody Rhodes proving to be a match for the Tribal Chief, with action inside and outside the ring as well as multiple interferences that changed the course of the match at various intervals. However, the ending of the match broke million hearts as Roman Reigns retained his title once again thanks to Solo Sikoa’s interference and Cody Rhodes has not been able to finish his story. But there was no doubt that both competitors took each other to their absolute limit, but in the end, it was the Head of the Table who walked out victorious. Fans dumped over this match at the time due to the result, but it was a fantastic encounter for sure.

While there may be an argument, the first outing of Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania was one of his best for many reasons. The match had fans engaged throughout the entire build-up, despite their displeasure for Reigns who they believed did not belong in that spot. Moreover, it was the first-time ever Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns were set to collide in a highly anticipated showdown.

Furthermore, towards the end, Reigns launched a series of attacks and a pair of Spears that almost gave him victory and swept the fans off their feet. WrestleMania 37 was the first edition to witness the ‘Tribal Chief’ version of Roman Reigns compete in the main event. Reigns, who walked in as the Universal Champion, defended the title against both Edge and Daniel Bryan in a triple-threat match.

All three superstars gave their all in a fast-paced and highly thrilling action with submissions, Spears, dropkicks, and carnage all over the place. The final closing moments would always be memorable for Roman Reigns smashing both Bryan and Edge, stacking them, and pinning the fallen competitors together to retain his title in one of the best performances of his career.
