UPDATE: 2023/11/23 07:30 EST BY TEVON KING

Goldberg is one of the most polarizing stars in the history of professional wrestling. Goldberg had a successful stint in WCW where he boasted an in impressive 173-0 unbeaten streak, and he was a Triple Crown Winner. Goldberg joined WWE on the Raw after WrestleMania 19, and despite winning the World Heavyweight Championship from Triple H at Unforgiven 2003, his first run wasn’t as successful as his second stint with WWE. Goldberg has suffered 10 defeats in one-on-one matches throughout his Hall of Fame career, which is an impressive achievement. Only former World Champions have registered wins over Goldberg which shows that it has taken the very best to defeat Goldberg. The three-time WWE World Champion has suffered six losses to wrestlers in WWE and four in WCW.

Kevin Nash defeats Goldberg via pinfall to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship

As you probably know, Kevin Nash was the one who put an end to Goldberg’s undefeated streak. In the main event of Starrcade 1998, Kevin Nash and Goldberg collided in a No Disqualification match for the WCW World Heavyweight Title.

Kevin Nash playing dirty and getting help from Disco Inferno, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Scott Hall was perhaps a bit overbooked, but it was the only “credible” way for Goldberg to be defeated by Nash. Scott Hall shocked Goldberg with a cattle prod and Nash took the opportunity to hit a Jackknife Powerbomb, which was enough for the 1-2-3.

There’s no secret that Goldberg didn’t particularly like feuding with Kevin Nash. Goldberg boasted a remarkable 173-0 unbeaten record which was ended by the hands of Nash. Goldberg and Nash were on a level playing field as Nash portrayed a babyface as the leader of the Wolfpac. Goldberg was on a tear after he beat Hulk Hogan for the WCW Championship in July 1998 in front of his hometown fans in the Georgia Dome. Goldberg’s loss made little sense as Nash dropped the WCW Title shortly afterwards to Hulk Hogan in the Finger poke of Doom. Goldberg expressed dislike of how his streak ended over the years, but has since changed his stance on it.

9 Bret Hart Is The Only Man To Beat Goldberg Three Times

The Hitman Has Goldberg’s Number

  • Bret Hart defeated Goldberg for the WCW United States Championship – Nitro October 25, 1999
  • Bret Hart defeated Goldberg to retain the WCW World Heavyweight Championship – Starrcade 1999
  • Bret Hart defeated Goldberg to win the WCW World World Heavyweight Championship – Nitro December 20, 1999

Bret Hart was Goldberg’s worst nightmare, as they faced each other three times and all three times The Hitman was the winner. In fact, Bret Hart is the only wrestler in history who was able to defeat Goldberg on more than one occasion.

Their first encounter was on October 25, 1999, on an episode of Monday Nitro, when Hart took the United States Heavyweight Title from Goldberg. Weeks later at Starrcade 1999, Hart defeated Goldberg in a No Disqualification match, and the following night they had a rematch, but the result was the same.

The feud between Goldberg and Bret Hart is well documented as Goldberg ended the Hitman’s career as he executed a nasty-looking kick to Hart’s head which gave him a concussion at Starrcade 1999. Somehow, Hart managed to carry on and fight on. Goldberg and Bret were former WCW Tag Team Champions together. However, Bret turned heel on the December 20, 1999, edition of Nitro, when Hart had a helping hand from the nWo to recapture the WCW Championship.

Booker T defeats Goldberg via pinfall to retain the WCW World Heavyweight Championship

Believe it or not, Booker T defeated Goldberg. It was on the July 24, 2000, episode of Monday Nitro. Booker T defended the World Heavyweight Title against Goldberg twice that night. In the first match, Stevie Ray threw in the towel on behalf of Booker T. Later that night, Goldberg and Booker T clashed again.

Jeff Jarrett and Ernest “The Cat” Miller attacked Goldberg, then Booker T capitalized on the opportunity to perform the Book End and defeat Goldberg after two and a half minutes.

Goldberg was in the midst of a brief heel run in the summer of 2000 and Booker T was a major singles star after his successful tag team run with his brother Stevie Ray in Harlem Heat. It was the first time that Goldberg was a heel in WCW, and his match with Booker T on Nitro was full of shenanigans. Goldberg’s defeat to Booker T was just his third defeat on Nitro.

Scott Steiner defeats Goldberg via technical submission

At Fall Brawl 2000, Goldberg and Scott Steiner faced each other in a No Disqualification match. It was a brutal battle, although Vince Russo’s interference wasn’t really necessary and many hated it. After 13 intense minutes, Steiner managed to defeat Goldberg.

This was arguably Scott Steiner’s best performance as a singles star, not just because of what it means to defeat Goldberg, but because the match was spectacular and Steiner was terrific.

Leading up to Fall Brawl 2000, Goldberg turned face once again after he walked out on a triple threat match featuring himself, Scott Steiner, and Kevin Nash at New Blood Rising. Goldberg was angered by Vince Russo, and he swore at him. Goldberg and Steiner feuded briefly and Steiner was on his way to winning the WCW Championship. Goldberg isn’t notorious for having long matches but he had a good match with Steiner. Steiner’s triumph with the Steiner Recliner is significant as it’s the first time that someone has beaten Goldberg by submission.

Brock Lesnar defeats Goldberg via pinfall to win the WWE Universal Championship

13 years after the infamous match between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 20, they faced each other again at WrestleMania 33, but this time they did deliver a very good match. A less than five-minute affair worked much better, as the match was more entertaining and fast-paced.

Brock Lesnar got his revenge by defeating Goldberg and also became Universal Champion. The Beast held the title for 504 days, which is a record for the Universal Championship.

At Fastlane 2017, Goldberg ended Kevin Owens’ seven-month Universal Championship reign in quick time to win the Universal Title for the first time in his career. It was Goldberg’s first World Championship reign in 14 years. Three months before that, Goldberg humiliated Brock Lesnar in under 90 seconds at Survivor Series 2016 to go 2-0 in their head-to-head. However, before Goldberg captured the Universal Championship, Paul Heyman set up Lesnar and Goldberg’s match at WrestleMania 33. The Universal Title became an afterthought in their rivalry, as the match was big enough without a championship. The defeat was Goldberg’s first loss in a one-on-one match in WWE.

The Undertaker defeats Goldberg via pinfall

The main event of Super ShowDown 2019 featured The Undertaker taking on Goldberg. Truth be told, the match was a fiasco, a disaster, just like the PPV itself, which was one of the worst PPVs in WWE history.

Sadly, this was one of the worst matches of both their careers. But what’s important here is that The Undertaker joined that small group of wrestlers who managed to defeat Goldberg in a singles match.

The Undertaker missed WrestleMania for the first time in 19 years in 2019, and it remained to be seen if the Demon of Death Valley would step foot inside the squared circle again. However, two decades too late, Goldberg and The Undertaker collided in a marquee match to close out Super ShowDown 2019. Goldberg was 52 and The Undertaker was 54. Neither man was at the peak of their powers, and the match had a catalog of errors. The disgust on Undertaker’s face told you everything you needed to know about a failure of a match between two former World Champions.

On the first night of WrestleMania 36, Goldberg put the Universal Title on the line against Braun Strowman. The Monster Among Men only needed two minutes and 13 seconds to defeat Goldberg and become the new Universal Champion.

There is not much to say about this match, as it was a typical match for Goldberg (except for the loss), who is certainly in the twilight of his career and can no longer put on shows as good as he used to.

In the bowels of the crowdless Performance Center, there was supposed to be a blockbuster Universal Championship match featuring Goldberg and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 36. However, Reigns ruled himself out of contention as the COVID-19 pandemic was fairly new, and Reigns did not want to put himself or his family at risk as his immune system is not as strong considering he battled Leukemia in the past. Enter Braun Strowman who took advantage of the situation presented to him. There was no feud or build-up to the match as the Monster Among Men was a last-minute replacement. Strowman captured the Universal Championship for the first time, which handed Goldberg, his second defeat on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

McIntyre got up and fought with momentum then performed a perfect Claymore kick on Goldberg and made the cover to get the win and retain the WWE title.

Goldberg has a habit for rocking up to WWE and challenging for a World Championship for no apparent reason. The WWE Hall of Famer returned to WWE programming for the first time in nine months in January 2021, and he was determined to end Drew McIntyre’s WWE Championship reign. However, history was on the line for Goldberg as if he prevailed, he would break Mr. McMahon’s record for becoming the oldest WWE Champion by a few days. Goldberg showed heelish signs leading up to his WWE Title match with the Scottish Psychopath. Goldberg’s matches are never lengthy affairs, and McIntyre weathered the storm to retain the WWE Championship. Goldberg showed his class as both wrestlers shook hands at the end of the match.

This was one of the worst matches in Reigns’ Universal Championship title reign. Goldberg attempted the Jackhammer but Reigns reversed it, and he cinched in the Guillotine Choke with Goldberg unable to fight out of it, and Reigns retained the Universal Championship.
