The sudden and tragic passing of Friends actor Matthew Perry has left fans and the entertainment industry in shock. Perry, who was laid to rest on Friday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, passed away in a hot tub. However, the cause of his death remained unknown initially.
The latest update reveals that the death certificate has listed the cause of death as deferred, citing pending toxicology reports and ongoing investigation. The autopsy, however, has been completed, according to information obtained by The Blast. At the time of his untimely death, Perry was 54 years old.
Perry’s family released a heartfelt statement just a day after his demise, expressing their deep sorrow: “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him, and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”
The Friends cast and Perry’s co-stars, still grappling with the shock, released a joint statement expressing that they are “utterly devastated” and need time to “grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”
It is noteworthy that Perry had previously expressed his desire to create a movie about his life. His friend, Athenna Crosby, shared in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada that Perry specifically envisioned Zac Efron portraying his younger self. Perry had worked with Efron in the past and had plans to approach him for the role.
As the news of Perry’s passing continues to reverberate, it has been reported that his Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston is facing significant emotional distress. Page Six reports that Aniston is “struggling most acutely,” especially considering the close proximity of Perry’s passing to the one-year anniversary of her father’s death. The source noted that she is attempting to regroup and recover, but the loss of Perry has dealt a devastating blow.
