Met Gala 2023: The biggest costume fashion event of the year is back. The event will take place tonight at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Usually on the first Monday in May, the theme of this year’s event will center around the late German fashion designer ‘Karl Lagerfeld’.
What is Met Gala?
Met Gala is basically a fundraising event held to benefit the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The event is also formally known by the name ‘Costume Institute Gala’ or ‘Costume Institute Benefit’. World-renowned designers, fashion icons and actors grace the red carpet every year.
Met Gala 2023 Theme
The theme of Met Gala 2023 will focus on the late German fashion designer ‘Karl Lagerfeld’. The theme would be “Karl Lagerfeld: The Line Of Beauty” to pay tribute to the late designer. Meanwhile, last year’s theme focused on “Gilded Glamour”.
Hollywood and Bollywood guests this year
This year, the co-chairs of the event include the famous Hollywood actress Michaela Coel, Penelope Cruz, Swiss tennis player Roger Federer and singer Dua Lipa. Meanwhile, the guest list is usually kept under wraps each year, however some stars including actress Elle Fanning and singer Rita Ora have confirmed their attendance to the event.
Meanwhile, Blake Lively, who attended the event last year, has now revealed that she won’t be attending the ball this year. On the other hand, Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who skipped the ball last year, will attend the ball this year. Apart from her actress Alia Bhatt she will make her Met Gala debut this year.

Met Gala is one of the events that will not be broadcast directly on television. Instead, the event will be streamed online on Vogue’s social media pages and website.
