Christopher Nolan, a very well-known name in the entire world of filmmaking, he is one of the first-rated filmmakers in the world. He has created the finest content pieces, like “Inception”, “Memento”, “Insomnia”, “The Prestige” and a very recent movie, “Oppenheimer”. Many actors from Hollywood as well as Bollywood are willing to work with Nolan. But only a few get this opportunity. And our beloved Irrfan Khan was one of them. Well, things really couldn’t work well and we missed this outstanding collaboration.
This time Christopher Nolan himself wanted to work with this talented actor, Irrfan Khan, and he asked him for one of the great movies “Interstellar”. But Irrfan Khan denied this director. Christopher Nolan shared this memory with ETimes. He said, “I did meet Irrfan for Interstellar. I was looking forward to working with him. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to do the film. He was a great actor.” Christopher was looking at Irrfan for the role of Dr. Mann, who was later played by Matt Demon.
Interstellar was released in 2014. In the pre-production of the film, when Nolan approached him, he was about to start a new film, “The Lunch Box”. Ritesh Batra cast him in a festival film, “The Lunch Box”. Giving an explanation of his refusal, Irrfan once said that it was really impossible for him to give them a long commitment and stayed in the US for 4 months as he had to give time for “The Lunch Box” and “D-Day”. So he suggested a way that he would shuttle between India and the US. But that time the crew didn’t allow him to do so and that’s why he had to say “NO” to Nolan and Irrfan called it one of the most difficult decisions of his entire life.
But his sacrifice was worth it because The Lunch Box was his best performance, and he received a round of appreciation from industry and fans for his character of Saajan Fernandes.
