Last week, Dominik Mysterio shocked the world when he defeated Wes Lee for the NXT North American Championship. The victory marked Dominik’s first singles title in his wrestling career. His first title win came in May 2020, when he and his father Rey Mysterio won the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships.
WWE fans know that Rey Mysterio and his son have a very strained relationship (on-screen). The two had a falling out when Dominik betrayed Rey and joined the villainous Judgment Day faction. Now, Dominik’s spreading his wings as a singles performer with his Mami, Rhea Ripley, right by his side.
Will The Mysterio Family Feud Pick Up Again?
While speaking on WWE’s The Bump, Rey Mysterio praised his son’s success and independence. He then lamented that he is unable to celebrate this success with Dominik due to their fallout. The most intriguing remark came when Rey Mysterio threatened to step into the ring with Dominik once again and take his North American Championship. Fightful has provided the following transcription:
The fact that he’s succeeding and becoming his own person, he’s already his own person. You don’t know how many times I would have loved to call him up and say, ‘Congratulations, son, you’re really killing it.’ But it hurts. Unfortunately, I can’t do it, and that really hurts. I wish things would be different. But as a father, despite our differences. I’m extremely proud of what he’s doing and what he’s conquering. He just better not step in the ring with me because I will take that North American Title.
Rumors have recently started to swirl regarding WWE possibly holding a PLE in Mexico. If this does end up on the docket, that would of course be the prime opportunity to hold this father vs. son rematch.
