Things Everyone Gets Wrong About WWE’s WrestleMania

WWE’s WrestleMania is unquestionably the biggest show of the year. Since its inception in 1985, WrestleMania has grown exponentially with WWE moving from hosting WrestleManias in arenas to stadiums permanently from WrestleMania 23 onwards (except for WrestleMania 36 due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

WrestleMania 40 is rapidly approaching, and there are several shocking moments that WWE might be looking to execute on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

While WrestleMania is a special show, there are some myths about the show that are simply not true. There are several facts that wrestling fans know about WrestleMania, but there are many things that fans assume about the show that are false.

Traditionally, WWE pay-per-views have been held on Sundays and now on Saturdays. However, WrestleMania has taken place on Saturdays and Sundays with fans assuming that WrestleMania always takes place on the weekend, but that isn’t the case as WrestleMania 2 took place on a Monday.

It’s the only WrestleMania that occurred in three different locations. WrestleMania 2 was a poor WrestleMania with notable results including Randy Savage successfully defending the Intercontinental Championship against George “The Animal” Steele in Nassau Coliseum, Andre the Giant winning a Battle Royal in the Rosemont Horizon portion of the show, and Hulk Hogan retaining the WWE Championship against King Kong Bundy in a steel cage match inside the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.

Feuds Tend To Carry On After WrestleMania

  • Feuds don’t always finish up at WrestleMania.
  • Rivalries from WrestleMania can go into trilogies.
  • Controversial finishes can see feuds prolong after WrestleMania.

The biggest and best feuds are typically reserved for WrestleMania, but there is always a fallout after a match comes to a halt at WrestleMania. The backlash of WrestleMania is what fans look forward to seeing what’s next for the wrestlers’ feuding.

WWE’s Samoan Dynasty has had several rivals throughout the years that they battled in different decades!

Many wrestling fans think feuds end at WrestleMania but it doesn’t always pan out that way. Triple H and Batista’s feud carried on for several months until Vengeance 2005, and even Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar’s feuds after WrestleMania 34 and WrestleMania 38 respectively continued for many months and ended at SummerSlam.

WrestleMania 17 Was Perfect From Top To Bottom

There Were Some Underwhelming Matches At WrestleMania 17

  • WrestleMania 17 is regarded as the greatest WrestleMania of all time.
  • WrestleMania 19 is arguably a better alternative than WrestleMania 17 bell-to-bell.
  • Not all of the matches at WrestleMania 17 were watchable.

Many fans hold WrestleMania 17 in high regard and rightfully so. The Rock and Steve Austin went toe-to-toe over the WWE Championship in the main event, and TLC 2 was one of the best TLC matches in history. However, not all of the action on the card was great.

The Gimmick Battle Royal featuring many legends with The Iron Sheik was poor as was the six-man tag team match featuring Right to Censor clashing with APA, and Tazz. Ivory was squashed in her WWE Women’s Championship match with Chyna which was another short match on the card. WrestleMania 19 was arguably better with awesome matches such as the clash between Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho, Rock and Austin battling for the third (and final) time at WrestleMania, and Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship in the main event.

When the winner of the men’s or women’s Royal Rumble matches win the Royal Rumble match they punch their ticket to a World Championship match of their choosing at WrestleMania. However, what’s misleading is that the winner “headlines” WrestleMania which isn’t always the case.

With WrestleMania being staged over two nights there are more opportunities for Royal Rumble match winners to headline WrestleMania. Bayley won the 2024 women’s Royal Rumble match, and she’s going to challenge her former Damage CTRL stablemate Iyo Sky for the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 40. She’s most likely going to be the latest Royal Rumble match winner to miss out on headlining WrestleMania.

Shawn Michaels is known as “Mr. WrestleMania” for some of the instant classics he has been involved in at the Grandest Stage of Them All, and many wrestling fans will think that Michaels has an amazing win-loss record at WrestleMania. However, for his high standards, Michaels has just 6 WrestleMania victories with 11 defeats.

Defeating Shawn Michaels was no small feat. These 10 wrestlers were the first to defeat The Heartbreak Kid in WWE.

Michaels’ victory over Bret Hart at WrestleMania 12 for his first WWE Championship reign is unquestionably the standout result in his WrestleMania career. Nevertheless, despite Michaels’ 11 losses at WrestleMania, he’s brought his A-game to WrestleMania with some memorable matches that are among the greatest in the history of WrestleMania.

Winning At WrestleMania Guarantees Success

Some Wrestlers Failed To Capitalize On Major WrestleMania Wins

  • Some wrestlers tend to struggle after major WrestleMania victories.
  • Some competitors were booked poorly after picking up big wins at WrestleManias.
  • Some talent are directionless after winning at WrestleMania.

Every wrestler who walks through the doors of WWE dreams of competing at WrestleMania, but a bonus for some is to get a victory at WrestleMania. Furthermore, some wrestlers who have picked up major wins at WrestleMania have seen their momentum stalled after prevailing at the Show of Shows.

Mr. Kennedy won the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 23, but he sustained an injury and lost the briefcase to Edge on an episode of Raw. Fandango upset Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 29, and Apollo Crews defeated Big E for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 37. Despite these wins, their success wasn’t long for this world in the long run, and the wrestlers found themselves falling down the pecking order.

It’s Not Meant For The Hardcore Fans

WrestleMania Gets A Lot Of Mainstream Attention

  • Wrestling fans get the opportunity to meet wrestlers at Axxess.
  • Fans worldwide travel to attend WrestleMania.
  • A mixture of die-hard and casual fans fill up stadiums at WrestleMania.

There is a lot of media spotlight when it comes down to WrestleMania as it is the biggest wrestling event of the year. Since there is celebrity involvement inside and outside the squared circle at past WrestleManias, there is a misconception that WrestleMania is not for die-hard wrestling fans.

That couldn’t be further from the truth as many die-hard wrestling fans will save money to attend WrestleMania which is on many wrestling fans’ bucket lists. Undoubtedly, casual wrestling fans tune in for WrestleMania season and the same can be said for the Royal Rumble for nostalgia purposes, but wrestling fans who watch WWE regularly will no doubt watch WrestleMania. Not just celebrity involvement, but WWE legends from yesteryear rock up to WrestleMania whether it be for a cameo or match.

Gone are the days when babyfaces ended WrestleMania victorious to send fans home happy. Hulk Hogan closed out eight of the first nine WrestleManias and he was victorious in seven of those bouts which is an astonishing record. However, Roman Reigns cemented his legacy as one of the best WrestleMania performers as he has stood tall in the last three WrestleManias in succession by retaining adding and retaining World Championship gold.

Triple H became the first heel to close out WrestleMania victorious at WrestleMania 16, keeping the WWE Championship in his possession. Unsurprisingly, the majority of WrestleManias have curtailed with babyfaces going over, but sometimes wrestling fans don’t get what they want with heels ending WrestleMania with wins. Seth Rollins’ Money in the Bank cash-in at WrestleMania 31 was arguably the greatest heel victory to bring WrestleMania to a close as he pinned Roman Reigns to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
