  • Undertaker explains why dream match with Sting never happened, blames Vince McMahon for not wanting it to occur despite fan demand.
  • Despite potential for good match, Undertaker felt it wouldn’t meet fan expectations, praising Sting’s move to AEW for smart booking decisions.
  • Reflecting on retirement, Undertaker acknowledges physical limitations, expresses respect for Sting, leaving fans longing to see a face-off someday.

In a recent video posted on the “Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway” YouTube channel, wrestling icon The Undertaker, also known as Mark Calaway out of character, discussed the long-awaited dream match with Sting that never came. Fans are still calling for this match even though Sting is now retired and The Undertaker has been retired a few years. It’s not likely to happen, but The Undertaker revealed that he might have considered a comeback if Sting hadn’t retired. However, with Sting officially done with wrestling, the most either man can do at this point is explain why the match never took place.

Undertaker reflected on the missed opportunity during the show, noting that there was a brief period when Sting was in WWE, presenting the perfect opportunity for their epic showdown. “It didn’t work out,” he said, then pointed the finger at Vince McMahon who didn’t want the bout to go down. Undertaker said:

He had a short run in WWE and Vince didn’t want it. For whatever reason, I don’t know what it was. He didn’t feel it. Everybody else was clamoring for this match for quite a few years.

Undertaker emphasized that while the match could have been good, he believed it wouldn’t have lived up to fans’ sky-high expectations, particularly considering the timing of their potential encounter.

Instead of facing Undertaker, WWE opted to pit Sting against Triple H, resulting in Triple H’s victory after a chaotic finish involving DX and the NWO.

Undertaker also offered insights into Sting’s transition to AEW, praising the company’s judicious booking and decision to team up with Darby Allin, which prevented potential exposure and showcased his mentorship role. Making sure not to say anything disparaging about Sting, Undertaker emphasized the importance of recognizing one’s limitations and prioritizing the quality of entertainment for fans. It’s likely why a match would never happen today.

Sting Admits He Hoped Everything He Did In WWE Would Lead To The Undertaker

Triple H, Seth Rollins, Sting hoped it would all lead to The Deadman.

Is It Too Far Down the Road For Sting and Undertaker To Meet In A Ring?

Reflecting on his own retirement, Undertaker revealed the internal struggle between his desire to continue entertaining fans and the physical toll his body had taken over the years. While he believed he could still perform to some extent, and he praised Sting for how well he moves at his age, Taker ultimately accepted the reality that his body couldn’t keep up with his mind and heart’s desires.

While the dream match between Undertaker and Sting may never happen, both legends continue to command immense respect, and fans desire to see these two face off. One day, even if there’s not a match, WWE can deliver by having these two just stand face to face.
