The Former Interim Lightweight Champion Had A Tough First Round

In the opening round, Saint Denis took on the role of aggressor, though his offensive maneuvers often led him into grappling exchanges with the Diamond. Dustin Poirier Opens Up About Honoring The Sport In Post Fight Interview

‘The Diamond’ Was Humble In Victory

Joe Rogan praised Dustin’s performance in the interview after the fight. Rogan praised the UFC star for taking the risky fight.

“He wasn’t a name that the world really knows, he’s on his way up and finished he last five opponents and he’s dangerous. Every win in his professional career, he’s finished, and he has a never-say-die attitude. When I saw that and watched some of his fights, I fought one of my friends. I said ‘I gotta take this fight because I honor this sport that we do. Eddie Alvarez gave me my shot in Dallas when he was a former champ and I was on my way up. You gotta pay it back, hold your position or lose it. That’s the nature of the beast.”

The crowd roared in applause as Poirier spoke. The UFC fighter doubled down on his instinct to throw guillotines and said he would never stop the submission. Poirier paid tribute to Saint Denis military service and those who do the same in America.
