Worst WWE WrestleMania Championship Challengers

Competing at WrestleMania is a huge achievement that not every wrestler can achieve in their career. Being omitted from WrestleMania is one of the hardest things that a wrestler could endure. However, WrestleMania being spread out over two days instead of one means that there will be more opportunities presented to wrestlers that they wouldn’t have gotten in the past. Nevertheless, championship matches are one of the main attractions that fans look forward to watching at WrestleMania.

Jinder Mahal defeated Randy Orton (c), Rusev, and Bobby Roode to win the WWE United States Championship

Jinder Mahal has been a thorn in Randy Orton’s side. He ended Orton’s WWE Championship reign at Backlash 2017, and almost 12 months later, the Modern-Day Maharaja was looking to curtail Orton’s United States Championship reign although Rusev and Boody Roode had something to say about that in their fatal-four-way United States Championship match at WrestleMania 34.

Mahal is an average in-ring competitor, and he was once again the man responsible for ending one of Orton’s championship reigns. Mahal’s WWE Title win was the biggest victory of his career, but winning a championship at WrestleMania was another feel-good moment for Mahal.

Hemme was out of her depth, and she was never going to clinch the Women’s Championship. She gave Trish a slight scare with a modified version of the Twist of Fate, but Trish’s Chick Kick was enough to seal the deal in a successful Women’s Championship title defense.

Their Women’s Championship match was the first one to take place at WrestleMania in five years. Tori wasn’t Women’s Championship material and it was a poor title bout. Tori was closing in on victory, but Nicole Bass made her WWE debut and she overpowered Tori. Sable took advantage and retained her title in a poor championship match.

This turned into a nightmare for Boogs as he legitimately injured his right knee as he tried to hoist both of The Usos on his shoulders.

Boogs and Nakamura failed to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship with Boogs unable to continue and Nakamura wrestled on his lonesome. Boogs’ WWE career was never the same after this. Eva Marie wasn’t a good in-ring competitor, and it summed up the sorry state of the women’s division in 2014. Marie was one of AJ Lee’s challengers for the WWE Divas Championship at WrestleMania 30.

Marie should have been nowhere near the title picture in the PG Era, but the women’s division wasn’t taking seriously. Marie starred on Total Divas and she left WWE in 2017, before she rejoined the company in 2021, and she was let go once again.
