WWE Not Going With Massive Rollins vs. Reigns Match at Survivor Series

Highlights

  • No champion vs. champion showdown between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins at this year’s Survivor Series, as WWE moves away from the brand warfare concept.
  • WWE may use the WarGames format for the 2023 edition of Survivor Series to focus on storylines rather than brand battles.
  • Raw vs. SmackDown rivalry teased for Survivor Series, with potential matches centered around Raw GM Adam Pearce and SmackDown GM Nick Aldis.

According to a new report, WWE fans will not witness the much-anticipated champion vs. champion showdown between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins at this year’s Survivor Series. Traditionally, the November pay-per-view has featured SmackDown vs. Raw battles, but the brand warfare concept, heavily criticized in recent years, has been laid to rest. And, just because WWE teased a match between Rollins and Reigns this past Monday on Raw, doesn’t mean they intend to bring it to fans at the annual premium live event.

There are reports that WWE may, once again, opt for the WarGames format for the 2023 edition of Survivor Series. The event, set to take place on November 25 in Chicago, Illinois should be a big deal on the calendar, but WWE wants to make sure that storylines heading into the show are the priority. This event won’t be about Raw and SmackDown, particularly involving Seth Rollins, plans for a Champion vs. Champion match with Reigns. Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio points out that WWE is “for sure” not going the champion vs. champion route at Survivor Series despite doing so in past years.

The WWE Universe witnessed an intriguing backstage conversation between Rollins and women’s world champion Rhea Ripley on Monday Night Raw. While Ripley attempted to persuade Rollins to join forces with The Judgment Day to dethrone Reigns, Rollins remained adamant about maintaining his distinct identity and distance from The Tribal Chief.

Interestingly, Roman Reigns, the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, is not currently advertised for Survivor Series, leaving his participation in the event uncertain. On the other hand, Seth Rollins is prominently featured in the event’s advertising, hinting at a potential defense of his World Heavyweight Title.

Expect Some Raw vs. SmackDown Survivor Series Action

Although the absence of a Reigns vs. Rollins matchup at Survivor Series might disappoint fans, WWE has teased a Raw vs. SmackDown rivalry, primarily revolving around Raw general manager Adam Pearce and SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis. While the exact nature of the Raw vs. SmackDown encounters remains unspecified, there may be a match or two centered around that budding rivalry.

Even if WWE doesn’t go with the Rollins vs. Reigns much-anticipated clash, the anticipation surrounding Survivor Series continues to build.
