Chinese singer Jane Zhang faces backlash for infecting herself

Jane Zhang Liangyin is a well-known Chinese singer-songwriter. However, the singer is currently making headlines for all the wrong reasons. According to reports, Jane Zhang deliberately infected herself with COVID-19 so as not to risk infection during her concert on New Year’s Eve, the South China Morning Post reported.

However, the singer later issues an official apology after she faced severe backlash from fans around the world. The outlet reported that Jane Zhang revealed that she visited “sheep” houses, a term for virus carriers in China before the concert.

Zhang took to the Chinese social media platform called Weibo and wrote, “I have prepared myself to be ‘infected,’” adding, “Then I started to have a fever, my throat started to hurt, my nose started to hurt, I My whole body started to ache, my head started to hurt… before I finally fell asleep.”

The singer continues her post: “After sleeping for a day and a night, all my symptoms disappeared… I just drank a lot of water and took vitamin C, without taking any medicine before I got better.” Jane Zhang also asked if her brief illness was considered a case of COVID-19.

Jane Zhang’s post faced an immediate backlash on social media. The singer was criticized by the user of social networks for her irresponsible behavior. However, after the immediate backlash, the singer deleted her post. Following the backlash, Zhang issued an official apology on the same social media platform. Jane apologized, saying, “I didn’t think things through before making my previous posts. I apologize to the public.”
