Romance is one of the fan favorite genres. We cannot imagine romantic comedy movies or shows without any kind of lip lock on screen. However, according to The New York Times report, in a 25-second short film by Thomas Edison in 1896, audiences witnessed the first on-screen kiss. Just like the first kisses, it was pretty awkward. It soon became a trend that is still loved by the public.
Hollywood movies and shows have made sure that kissing scenes are not awkward to watch, even if you watch them with family. Although on-screen kissing is a favorite thing to watch, there are some stars who refused to do it.
kirk cameron
Kirk Cameron is best known for his role as Mike Seaver on the ABC sitcom Growing Pains. He was also nominated for two Golden Globes. However, in the 2008 film Fireproof, Cameron had to share an on-screen kiss with Erin Bethea, who was playing the role of his wife, but Cameron didn’t want to. To film the scene, the filmmakers had to dress up Cameron’s real-life wife, Chelsea Noble, as the wife character and film the kiss scene in the shadows to blur the difference between Noble and Bethea.
Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev
Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev played the two lovebirds on The Vampire Diaries. Their steamy kiss in the rain as Damon and Elena in The Vampire Diaries is still the talk of the town. However, both Somerhalder and Dobrev refused to do that scene. During the PaleyFest panel for The Vampire Diaries, Somerhalder shared, “First of all, it’s really cold in Georgia, so I don’t think that’s a good idea.” The actor revealed that it was below 30 degrees at the time, which caused his jaw muscles to freeze. Meanwhile, Dobrev revealed that he had icicles in his hair at the time and then got sick.
Will Smith
Will Smith is one of the best actors in Hollywood. However, in 1993 six degrees of separation, inspired by the real life story of David Hampton, Smith’s character was gay and you must have seen him kissing his co-star. However, according to The Independent, the film’s director, Fred Schepisi, was enraged when Smith refused to kiss a male co-star on camera. Smith insisted that the scene be filmed from behind, which allowed him to fake the kiss.
