Keanu Reeves opts out of the adaptation of The Devil in the White City

Keanu Reeves leaves the series adaptation of ‘The Devil in the White City’. In 2019, the show was put into development for the Hulu streaming platform and was officially scheduled to air in August 2022. The show was based on the same name as a non-fiction book by Erik Larson.

In early August, it was announced that Reeves would headline The Devil in the White City. However, the John Wick star is no longer attached to the project. Keanu was supposed to play Daniel Burnham, the architect who played an integral role in designing the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago. No information about Reeves’ exit has yet been revealed. Well, now the creators of the Hulu adaptation will be looking for a new actor to play Burnham.

The official synopsis read: “Follow Daniel H. Burnham, a brilliant and fastidious architect who strives to make his mark on the world, and Henry H. Holmes, a handsome and cunning doctor who created his own pharmacist ‘Murder Castle’ in the righteous grouradhikands: a palace built to seduce, torture and mutilate young women. The story takes the viewer on a journey through murder, romance and mystery in the golden age.”

The project has been in development for almost a decade. In 2010, Leonardo DiCaprio bought the film rights to the book and planned to make it into a feature film at Paramount with Scorsese attached to direct. Reeves officially boarded the big-budget project in August of this year. Hulu is already looking to replace Keanu Reeves, but there’s no certainty when a potential actor will be selected. If the search takes too long, the project may be delayed.
