Avatar: The Way Of Water becomes the fourth highest-grossing film of all time just over a week after the highly anticipated sequel hit $2 billion at the global box office. The highly anticipated sequel has now secured a coveted spot in the top five highest-grossing films of all time with $2.071 billion in global sales.
Currently, the first position is occupied by Avatar, the other success of James Cameron, with 2,923 million dollars. Meanwhile, Avengers: Endgame is at No. 2 with $2.799 billion and Titanic at No. 3 with $2.195 billion. However, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now ranked #5 with $2.071 billion at the worldwide box office.
James Cameron’s latest hit, The Way Of Water, has yet to surpass his 1997 classic, Titanic. However, the sequel will soon cross all-time numbers as it jumped from $2 to $2.1 billion in just 10 days. The Avatar sequel is reported as “one of the most expensive movies ever made, with an estimated budget of $350 million or more.”
Filmmaker James Cameron had recently been open about his thoughts ahead of the long-awaited sequel’s release, particularly considering the effects of the pandemic on movie attendance. The director shared, “The big problem is: Are we going to make any fucking money? Big, expensive movies have to make a lot of money.” He added: “We are in a new post-COVID, post-broadcast world. maybe those [box office] The numbers will never be seen again. Who knows? It’s all one big roll of the dice.”
Meanwhile, Avatar is creating a buzz not only at the box office, but the movie is also doing very well at award ceremonies. Most recently, Avatar: The Way of Water earned Academy Award nominations in four categories. The film has been nominated for Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Production Design, and Best Sound. Previously, the film took Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Visual Effects.
