Ben Kingsley to Star in Graphic Novel Adaptation Violent Cases

Ben Kingsley will star in a new feature film that will be an adaptation of ‘Violent Cases’. The Oscar- and Grammy-winning actor has joined the first-ever adaptation of a graphic novel. Violent Cases is a graphic novel by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean.

Ben Kingsley will play the osteopath. Writer Mike Carey, director Colm McCarthy and producer Camille Gatin will direct the feature. It will be produced by Scary Monster, Lakesville Productions and Foton Pictures.

According to Variety, Kingsley said, “I’m thrilled to be working with this fantastic team on ‘Violent Cases,’ which for me is about the power and importance of storytelling, how we negotiate the shadows cast by father figures in our lives, and about all of our inner child’s right to be heard”.

“’Violent Cases’ is a journey into the mind of Neil Gaiman, as a famous author recounts fragmented memories of his childhood and visits to an osteopath who once worked for Al Capone, weaving a dark and twisted story about stories, our memory , the violence and the ways we can’t escape our past,” the logline reads.

Ben signed on to star in an adaptation of Gaiman and Dave McKean’s 1987 graphic novel ‘Violent Cases.’ This will be the first collaboration between the writer and the artist.

McCarthy said, “’Violent Cases’ is a wild, mind-blowing, yet thought-provoking and emotional comic. It’s so exciting to build a film off of this incredible genre-defining work.”

Added Carey: “As an aspiring writer in the late ’80s, reading ‘Violent Cases’ was an eye-opener and a joy for me. Her darkness and joy defined a new approach to storytelling. Thirty-five years later, it’s still unique, and translating it into a new medium is like discovering it all over again for the first time. Neil Gaiman redefined serialized comics with ‘The Sandman,’ but ‘Violent Cases’ was his and Dave McKean’s first masterpiece. It’s exciting to introduce him to a new audience and bring his visual lyricism to a new medium.”
